Lauren Mechling's How Could She? was immediately addictive - I devoured it quickly and didn't want it to end! Lauren has created truly relatable characters that feel like women you know (or maybe even remind you of YOU!). I found myself rooting for each -- then hoping for their downfall -- at different times throughout the book, as they did things that made me laugh, cringe, cry and even embrace them. The book is laugh out loud funny, and filled with beautiful writing that had me searching for other Lauren Mechling titles. Fingers crossed there will be a sequel so I can keep hanging out with Geraldine, Sunny and Rachel!

Especially if your world involved navigating a career in an ever-evolving sphere, finding your way, to paraphrase from Prince, in this thing called life, being in a friendship obtuse triangle, and suffering the crushing blow of a breakup that has left you undone.From Toronto to New York City, three friends, once connected by strong threads, are now trying to figure out how they converge, while each is living out a very different life.A keenly observed plot and Mechling’s intelligent writing would be more than enough to keep you reading. Then comes her wit, which is such perfection that SNL (or, SCTV, if you want to stick to all things Canadian) should steal her away for some next-level Weekend Update writing.You will love it. How could you not.
You might think it impossible for Evelyn Waugh and Edith Wharton to have had a love child, but this novel is basically it, transmuted over the generations. So, so good. Hilarious, wry, teasing. Highly recommend!!
Why aren’t there more books that are this fun AND this smart? I loved watching the characters manipulate each other and witnessing their fortunes rise and fall. It’s a tricky book that’s also a great.
It's not a bad read, but the characters are a bit too privileged and shallow to emotionally engage. Still, the writing kept me reading and the book flowed easily.
