Ein tolles Buch für alle, die mal etwas ganz Neues lesen möchten. Seit über 40 Jahren bin ich eine totale Leseratte, aber hier ist Debütant Stuart Turton tatsächlich etwas ein Werk gelungen, das anders ist als alles, was ich vorher gelesen habe, und das, obwohl sowohl Krimi als auch Fantasy (die beiden Genres, in die man das Buch wohl am ehesten verorten würde) zu meinen Lieblingsgenres zählen.Die Grundidee, denselben Tag mehrfach aus verschiedenen Perspektiven zu erleben, um dem Rätsel auf die Spur zu kommen und die Vorgänge zu beeinflussen, ist klasse, sehr gut umgesetzt und wurde mit interessanten ethischen Überlegungen angereichert. Allerdings ist es manchmal schwierig, genau im Auge zu behalten, wer gerade was tut und wo die Manipulationen der einzelnen Mitspieler stattfinden - so manches Mal war mir das nicht mehr alles 100% klar, was dem Genuss aber kaum einen Abbruch tat.Auch ist mir hier zum ersten Mal ein Buch untergekommen, bei dem die Erzählung im Präsens (die ich sonst furchtbar finde und wenn möglich vermeide) wirklich sinnvoll ist, da der Ich-Erzähler hier verwirrt und oft von den "Gastkörpern", die er bewohnt, angewidert, durch die spannende und atemlose Story stolpert. Die Ich-Perspektive wird auch knallhart durchgehalten, zu keinem Zeitpunkt weiß der Leser mehr als der Protagonist.Meiner Meinung nach wäre dieser Stoff gut geeignet als Vorlage für eine TV-Serie, oder als Ansatz für ein Adventure-Spiel.
Anfangs dies:Wenn ich genügend Geld zur Verfügung hätte, würde ich Kopien dieses Buch umsonst in der Fußgängerzone verteilen. Nicht weil es nichts wert wäre, sondern weil ich möchte, dass jeder dieses Buch liest. JEDER!Zum Inhalt:Der Erzähler wacht in einem tropfenden Wald auf, trägt den Smoking eines anderen und, wie er bald merkt, den Körper eines anderen. Er hat keine Erinnerung daran, wer er ist oder wie er in diesem Fremden gefangen wurde. Schließlich erfäher der Mann, dass sein Name Aiden Bishop ist, und er ist aus einem bestimmten Grund hier. Eine maskierte Figur informiert ihn lapidar, dass heute ein Mord begangen wird - ein Mord, der nicht wie ein Mord aussehen wird. Bishop hat acht Chancen, es zu lösen. Er wird den gleichen Tag acht Mal durchleben, aber jeden Morgen wird er in einem anderen Körper oder "Wirt" aufwachen. Er wird sich an seine Erfahrungen in den vorherigen Gastgebern erinnern, aber wenn er der maskierten Figur nicht bis zum achten Tag den Namen des Mörders gibt, wird er zum ersten Tag zurückgebracht, die Erinnerung gelöscht und muss von vorne anfangen. Wie er es bereits getan hat, hunderte Male.Zu gegebener Zeit wird Bishop gesagt, dass er Rivalen hat: Zwei der anderen Mitglieder der Landhauspartei sind auch Gastgeber für fremde Seelen, die den Mörder enthüllen sollen. Nur einer der drei kann erfolgreich sein und damit aus der Zeitschleife befreit werden. Und um ihn auf Trab zu halten, wird er von einem Psychopathen gesucht, einem messerschwingenden Lakaien, der abwechselnd auf jeden der Wirte zielt.Dieses Buch hat mich von den Füßen gerissen und das passiert mir bei Büchern nicht oft. Der Autor führt den Leser durch ein genial konstruiertes Set-up ganz unterschiedlicher und mysteriöser Charaktere. Ich bezweifle, dass überhaupt ein Leser vor der eigentlichen Enthüllung und dem letzten Plottwist auf die richtige Lösung kommen wird.Lassen Sie sich von Aiden Bishop an einen zeitlosen Mordschauplatz leiten und seien Sie bei seinem Rennen gegen die Zeit dabei!Es lohnt sich!
Well it started off well. Very well-written and at times amusing and so to begin with I started to enjoy it. But unfortunately when I got to the 'second person' he was supposed to be, I lost the plot. I thought to myself, hello, have I missed something, have I gone wrong somewhere, what on earth is happening? So, what a shame, I gave up quite early in the book. I very rarely give up on books, I think if I've paid the money I should like to finish it, but sadly in this case, I just couldn't. Just too complicated to follow.
I'm always looking for books with a twist. Now this premier of a young author has it all: it's gothic/Victorian, it's Stepen King, and it's highly psychological. Brilliant plot, excellent characters.... an author always slips into his protagonists. But a protagonist who keeps slipping into other characters trying to keep track with the solution for his way out and striving to hold on to his own identity - that's brilliant. Can't wait to read Stu Turton's second....and third....
mal etwas anderes :)ich schätze den Schreibstil des Autoren sehr, deshalb vergebe ich nun 4 Sterne, ein Punkt abzug, für die vieeeeelen unzähligen Charaktere in diesem Buch, das macht es einem echt nicht einfach :) aber alles unterm Strich muss ich sagen, dass es eine spannende Geschichte ist, die man ohne etwas zu spoilern gar nicht wirklich erklären kann, deshalb sage ich: lese es einfach :)
Wie hat es der Autor nur geschafft, den Überblick über das Konstrukt seiner Geschichte zu behalten? Man stellt sich eine riesige Wand vor, auf der alle Storylines, Wendungen, neuen Erkenntnisse und bekannt-unbekannten Figuren mit einem Geflecht aus Fäden miteinander verbunden sind. Der Zeitschleife-Körpertausch-Thriller, der einen ebenso atemlos zurücklässt, wie er geschrieben wurde, hat nur einen Wermutstropfen: Auch nach 500 Seiten ist er viel zu schnell vorbei. Allerdings hätte ich noch eine durchgelesene Nacht aber auch nicht geschafft ... Keine Frage: lesen!
Schade. Schöne Idee, aber langweilig und etwas übertrieben umgesetzt. Habe in der Mitte abgebrochen, weil es einfach zu wild wurde.
This story is elegantly written and intriguingly constructed. There were a couple of times when I almost abandoned the book because the protagonist felt so wholly unlikable. I'm glad I didn't.While the nature of Blackheath was easy enough to guess, the personal story behind it is something you should witness.
